Create an Isabel Hospice Tribute

An Isabel Hospice Tribute provides a place to remember the life of someone special. Helping us to continue to put life into days, where we cannot put days into the lives of those living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. We could not continue to provide our free care without families raising money for the Hospice in memory of their loved ones.

About Isabel Hospice

Laura, by her dad

During the summer of 2016 Laura started to experience stomach pains, which was thought, by her GP, to be a non-serious digestive condition. After the condition worsened and she began to lose her appetite she was sent for a CT scan. The scan revealed that she had colon cancer and she was admitted for urgent surgery. She was only thirty seven, a rare condition for someone her age.

The surgery proved to be unsuccessful, as the cancer had reached stage four. She was then referred for palliative care and was put in touch with Isabel Hospice and received home care and support for the following months while Laura attended hospital for chemotherapy.

Laura was a young Mum with a loving husband and two adorable young children. She stayed at home for as long as she could but made the decision herself, as she felt she was becoming difficult to look after, to be admitted to the hospice.

I went to visit her the day she arrived at Isabel. As I sat by her bed and held her hand she said. “I really like it here, they are so kind.” I smiled and made an excuse to leave the room to get a drink. I stood outside and cried. One of the Isabel nurses put her arm around me and stayed with me until I could compose myself and go back into Laura’s room.

The list of what the nurses did for my girl is endless and their kindness will stay with me forever.

On August 26th 2017 Laura passed away at Isabel with her Mum by her side. Thank you Isabel for realising what a special young woman she was.
